The 2024 Kia EV9 is an exciting new addition to the electric vehicle (EV) selection. If you’re interested in a spacious electric SUV with ample features and cutting-edge technology, this is one option you don’t want to overlook. Hitting US lots later this year, the 2024 Kia EV9 is definitely worth exploring.

How Powerful Is the 2024 Kia EV9?

The Kia EV9 is relatively customizable, so you can purchase the version and trim level that best suits your needs. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) EV9 has just one electric motor. The standard, or base, EV9 is an RWD option equipped with a 77.6 kWh battery. This gives it about 215 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A second RWD EV9 known as the Long Range features a 99.8 kWh battery in place of the 77.6 kWh option. This drops the horsepower to 201 due to the added weight from the heavier battery.

With the smaller battery, you can accelerate to 62 mph in 8.2 seconds. If you choose the larger battery, this increases to 9.4 seconds. Both of the RWD options are more notable for their battery life than their perkiness, which makes them practical vehicles that are ideal for family use.

If you opt for the all-wheel-drive (AWD) dual-motor Kia EV9, you’ll get a more powerful vehicle with 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. This is a much speedier option, hitting 60 mph in just six seconds. If you want your EV9 to move even faster, you can shave nearly a second off of that acceleration time with an optional boost available for purchase through the Kia Connect Store.

How Many People Can Fit in the Kia EV9?

Depending on its configuration, the EV9 can seat six or seven passengers. You can opt for power-adjustable second-row captain’s chairs complete with leg extensions, heating, and ventilation for ultimate comfort. If you want to maximize the number of people you can get in your vehicle, second-row bench seating will help you hit the seven-passenger limit.

Though some international concept vehicles showed off intriguing rotating second-row seats, this feature isn’t expected in the United States. These seats offer the ability to turn 180 degrees to face the third row or allow for easier entry and exit from the vehicle as they turn toward the doors. This feature may come to the US at a later date or in a subsequent model.

What Kind of Storage Does the Kia EV9 Offer?

The EV9 is pleasantly spacious for its class. With all three rows up, you’ll get 20.2 cubic feet of storage space in the cargo area. Fold the seats down and expand that to 81.9 cubic feet. Best of all, there’s a vehicle-to-load power outlet in the cargo area, so you can power a television or other technology and take your camping and tailgating adventures to another level.

What Are Over-The-Air Options?

The Kia EV9 is one of the first vehicles to come with over-the-air options and updates. Using the Kia Connect Store app, you can purchase extras for your vehicle that enhance the way it performs. One of the most notable is the Boost feature that shaves nearly a second off the acceleration time for the AWD version of the EV9. You can also purchase perks such as an illuminated grille and enhanced smart parking assist.

How Much Can I Tow in the Kia EV9?

The EV9 has an impressive towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, which makes it just as strong as the Telluride. This means you can easily haul kayak, canoe, jet ski, or fishing boat trailers as well as small campers, such as teardrop trailers, pop-up campers, and A-frame campers. It’s important to note, however, that the more you tow, the shorter your driving range will get.

How Long Does It Take To Charge the EV9?

With the standard 800V infrastructure, the EV9 will charge from 10% to 80% on a public 350 kW DC fast charger in under 25 minutes. This means that with proper parking, you can easily charge your vehicle to 80% or beyond while running routine errands. Rochester alone has more than a dozen public EV charging stations, making it a convenient city for new EV owners.

Is the Kia EV9 Eligible for a Federal Tax Credit?

Early Kia EV9s that hit lots in late 2023 will be manufactured internationally, which makes them ineligible for the full EV tax credit. Beginning at some point in 2024, Kia will manufacture the EV9 at its West Point, Georgia, plant. These locally assembled vehicles will be eligible for the federal tax credit. This tax credit can provide you with up to $7,500 for purchasing a new EV. To cash in on this credit, you must purchase the vehicle new for your own personal use and drive it primarily in the United States.

Your modified adjusted gross income must not exceed $300,000 as a married couple filing jointly, $225,000 for a head of household, or $150,000 if you’re another type of filer. To claim the tax credit, file Form 8936, Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit with your next tax return.

What Safety Features Will I Find in the Kia EV9?

The 2024 Kia EV9 is equipped with a host of safety features to help protect you on the road. You can enjoy added convenience and safety from:

  • Rear cross-traffic alert.
  • Front automatic emergency braking.
  • Lane-keeping assist.
  • Lane following assist.
  • Adaptive cruise control.
