Although Kia hasn’t shared many details about the 2023 EV9’s powertrain, range, or battery specifications, we can make some educated guesses based on what we know about the EV6. The EV9 will likely share the same single and dual-motor options as the EV6. So, it will have either a single electric motor with front-wheel drive or two electric motors with all-wheel drive.

Like the EV6, the power output for the EV9 will probably be in the ballpark of around 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque for the single motor setup and approximately 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque for the dual motor all-wheel-drive system. The EPA has not released estimates for the 2023 EV9’s fuel efficiency, but we expect them to be similar to the EV6. This would give the single-motor EV9 an estimated combined fuel economy rating of approximately 117 MPGe and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model an efficiency rating of around 105 MPGe.

In terms of transmission, the 2023 EV9 will likely come standard with a single-speed automatic transmission. This is the same transmission in the EV6 and allows the electric SUV to make the most of its instant torque. As for performance, the single-motor EV9 is expected to go from zero to 60 mph in around six seconds, while the dual-motor model should be able to go from zero to 60 mph in approximately five seconds.

Battery, Range, and Charging Time

The Ioniq 7 is built on Kia’s modular E-GMP platform, which will also underpin the 2023 EV9. This means we could see the same 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack offered in the EV9 as in the EV6. If this is the case, expect the EV9 to have a range slightly lower than the EV6’s estimated 300 miles for the single motor option and approximately 240 miles for the dual motor all-wheel-drive setup. The slight drop in range will likely be due to the EV9’s larger size and weight.

Of course, Kia could enlarge the battery for this SUV, but we’ll have to wait for official word from the automaker. When it comes to charging, the large SUV will most likely utilize the same 800-volt electrical architecture as the EV6. This will allow you to charge the EV9 at super-fast 350 kW DC fast-charging stations, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. A bidirectional charging feature will also be available in the EV9, enabling the vehicle to act as a mobile power source for devices such as your laptop or even another EV.

Interior and Technology

With comfortable vegan seats that accommodate up to six passengers, you, your family, and your friends will enjoy luxurious and eco-friendly rides around the Rochester, Minnesota, area. And with an emphasis on style, comfort, and environmental friendliness, the EV9’s interior will boast premium materials and creature comforts. A 27-inch horizontal infotainment display will be the centerpiece of the simple dashboard and provide access to all the car’s functions and features. Using upcycled materials developed from disposed waste from the delicate marine ecosystem, Kia can reduce its environmental impact without sacrificing quality or luxury.

The naturally blended pop-up steering wheel first seen in the Imagine by Kia concept will also appear in the EV9. This wheel will give you a boundary-pushing experience by providing a more direct connection to the car. You can also use AutoMode, the company’s forthcoming Level 3 autonomous driving system. This system will allow you to hand over control of the vehicle in stop-and-go traffic or during long highway journeys. The EV9’s interior layout will also be configurable, depending on whether you drive in autonomous mode.

When you’re finally able to step inside the all-new 2023 Kia EV9, you’ll be able to enjoy a driving experience that’s unlike anything else on the market. The EV9 offers truly unrivaled luxury, comfort, and cutting-edge technology.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Technologies

Safety is always a top priority for Kia, and the EV9 is no exception. We expect the SUV to come standard with a suite of driver-assistance features, like adaptive cruise control, remote smart parking assist, cyclist detection, automated emergency braking, a blind-spot camera, and rear cross-traffic alert. The car’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system will automatically distribute power to the wheels that need it most, enhancing maneuverability.

Highway Driving Assist II, the automaker’s hands-free driving system, will also be available in the EV9. This system uses sensors, cameras, and GPS to automatically keep the car within its lane and a safe distance from other vehicles. In the event of a collision, the EV9 will come equipped with an array of airbags and a reinforced steel frame designed to protect occupants. Rochester, Minnesota, drivers can rest assured that they’ll be protected from any eventuality when cruising in the all-new 2023 Kia EV9. The 2023 Kia EV9 is an electric SUV packed with cutting-edge features, luxurious appointments, and driver-assistance technologies.
