Rochester Art Center

If you’re an art lover and enjoy viewing fancy art, there is a treasure trove of contemporary art in this enchanting place. It promotes an understanding and appreciation of art. The collection features multicultural and multimedia works, with the displays changing every few months. The Rochester Art Center also offers engagement programs, including receptions for local artists, summer camps, creative development, and kids’ dance parties.

Quarry Hill Nature Center

When you visit here, you will see a variety of live animals, birds, and fish at  Quarry Hill Nature Center, as well as its taxidermy collection. A total of 35 species of live animals are housed here, as well as exotic species, a large aquarium with seven varieties of fish, and two raptors. In the bird study room, you’ll find various Minnesota-native birds that live just outside the windows or are mounted on the wall. There is lots of fun, hands-on learning, and it’s also a great place to hike with your kids or partner. 

The park offers year-round hiking trails, birdwatching, nature photography, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The Nature Center is closed four days a year, but you can visit it for free the rest of the time.

The Machine Shed

A popular meeting place for arcade gaming enthusiasts, the Machine Shed is located on Downtown Broadway. It’s a must-see for those who love vintage video games. Unlike other arcades, the Machine Shed isn’t reliant on coins or tokens; $10 gives you unlimited access to all games. It also repairs faulty gaming consoles and has enough games to keep you playing for hours. Across the street is the adjacent Gaming Bazaar, where you can buy and trade vintage video games from your youth. It also hosts parties and provides great food, incredible gaming, and a party room for rent every week.

Silver Lake Park

Silver Lake is located approximately one mile north of Downtown Rochester on the South Fork of the Zumbro River and is one of the most beautiful freshwater reservoirs in Southeast Minnesota. This area includes paved walkways along the shore where you can have a peaceful stroll. 

There are also boats, canoes, kayaks, and electric paddle boats for rent. If you love fishing, crappie, sunfish, and largemouth bass are among the most popular fish to catch. You can also expect to see hundreds of giant Canadian geese at Silver Lake Park. Pack some food and go for a picnic with your family, as visiting this scenic spot is always enjoyable.

Downtown Peace Plaza

There are a variety of dining, shopping, and outdoor seating areas in Rochester’s Downtown Peace Plaza, which you can find adjacent to the Mayo Clinic. It offers a variety of fun-loving activities, from afternoon music to fashionable fashion shows. Peace Plaza is perfect if you enjoy having fun. A vast network of skywalks and underground walkways connect Peace Plaza with the downtown area, offering a pleasant way to travel while visiting the numerous shops and restaurants. The events at Peace Plaza are among the best you’ll ever attend.

Rochester’s Breweries, Wineries, and Taprooms
