Hyundai and Kia are two Korean automakers that have been making a big splash in the American market in recent years. And as we approach the end of an era of combustion-engine cars, both brands are preparing to launch all-new electric vehicles that will compete in the increasingly popular electric vehicle (EV) market. Among them are the 2023 Kia EV9 and the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 7. Both are three-row SUVs, but these aren’t your average SUVs; they’re electric three-row SUVs, and they’re going to be among the first of their kind on the market.

Both models are excellent choices for those looking for an environmentally friendly car. But which one is the better choice? Well, it’s hard to say without knowing more about each vehicle. So, let’s pit these two Korean EVs against each other in a model comparison to see which one is worthy of your hard-earned money. If you have any questions, call Tom Kadlec Kia at (507) 215-8923.

Drivetrain, Performance, and Transmission

The EV9, like its twin rival, the Ioniq 7, will ride on Hyundai Motor Company’s E-GMP electric vehicle architecture. In terms of power output, the base model EV9 will have a slight advantage over the Ioniq 7, with 320 horsepower compared to the Ioniq 7’s 308 horsepower. On the performance front, the EV9 will have a 0-zero to 60 mph sprint time of around five seconds, which is on par with the Ioniq 7.

The EV9 and Ioniq 7 will most likely offer a single-speed direct-drive gearbox with regenerative braking. The drivetrain layouts for the two EVs will probably be similar, with the motor and battery pack under the floor. They should also come with either rear- or all-wheel drive, with the latter being optional. Overall, the Kia EV9 looks to be the more appealing option of the two, but only time will tell if it can truly dethrone the Ioniq 7 as the king of Korean EVs.

Range, Battery Pack, and Charging Times

When it comes to EVs, one of the most important specs to consider is range. After all, what’s the point of having an EV if it can’t go very far on a single charge? Kia’s EV9 has an impressive range of 310 miles, while the Ioniq 7 only has a range of 300 miles. This makes the EV9 ideal for long-distance trips or commutes.

In terms of the battery pack, both cars will likely come standard with a 100 kWh battery pack to offer a range similar to other large electric SUVs on the market. The EV9 and Ioniq 7 will be fast-charged at speeds up to 350 kW, meaning they can be charged from 0 to 80% and it would take just 20 to 30 minutes to charge a drained battery to 80% capacity when connected to a suitable public charger. It’s a close tie between the two regarding range and battery pack, but again the EV9 has a slight edge over the Ioniq 7.

Tech and Interior

When conceptualizing new vehicles, Korean automakers Kia and Hyundai are always at the forefront of innovation. This is especially true in the EV space, as both companies have invested heavily in this area recently. This can be seen in their latest offerings, the 2023 Kia EV9 and the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 7. Both SUVs boast cutting-edge tech and unique features that set them apart from the competition. Let’s take a closer look at what these two vehicles have to offer.

Regarding interiors, the EV9 and the Ioniq 7 offer seven-seat configuration. However, the Ioniq 7’s cabin is where it really shines. The use of materials like mineral plaster, bamboo wood, and carpet, along with bio-resin and hygienically treated fabric, gives the Ioniq 7 a unique and luxurious feel. The EV9 also adopts the use of unique materials, such as recycled plastic bottles and wool fibers, but to a lesser extent. The cabin is outfitted with vegan leather upholstery, recycled fishnets for the flooring, and the use of recycled plastic bottles and wool fibers.

Autonomous drive is also integral to the EV9 and Ioniq 7 experience. The driver’s seat in the Ioniq 7 features a retractable control stick that conceals itself when not in use. The cabin has a minimalist vibe and doesn’t feature the conventional driving apparatus found on regular cars. The seats can be arranged to look like a lounge, providing a unique and relaxing experience. The Ioniq 7 also features a Vision Roof Display; with an OLED screen that reflects content based on your preferences. The ambiance of the interior can also be changed, helping passengers relax and enjoy the driving experience.

On the flip side, the EV9 boasts a Level 3 autonomous driving experience dubbed AutoMode. This ‘Level three’ autonomous driving technology from Kia allows the SUV to navigate and adapt to its surroundings without driver input. The AutoMode system also includes features like navigation-based adaptive smart cruise control (NSCC) and auto lane-change capability. The seats can also be configured to provide a more lounge-like experience, and the front seats can swivel around based on your driving mode. While most of the anticipated features are only concepts, we’ll have to wait and see which of them make it to the final production.

So, the question is, which of these two vehicles has the better tech and interior? It’s hard to say, as they both offer unique and innovative features. It comes down to what you’re looking for in a vehicle. If you’re looking for a more luxurious and relaxing experience, then the Ioniq 7 is the way to go. If you’re looking for cutting-edge tech and a unique driving experience, then the EV9 is the better choice. No matter which way you go, you’re sure to be happy with your decision.
