2021 Kia Telluride LX in Rochester, MN

The Kia Telluride’s popularity over the last two years made this question an easy one for Kia to answer. Yes, there will be a 2022 Telluride, and no, there won’t be any major changes. That’s because the adage, “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it,” clearly applies here. We can point to so many features on the Telluride that make it a great SUV already that to try and improve upon them seems unnecessary.

We’ve assembled the latest information we’ve received from Kia regarding the Telluride in anticipation of the new model year. You’ll find interior amenities, exterior style points, and all the latest technology you can expect from the 2022 Telluride listed here to help you make an informed decision on which Telluride you should buy.

2022 Kia Telluride Release Date

Kia plans on releasing the 2022 Telluride in the summer of 2021. We expect Kia to continue offering the Telluride in four trim levels, the LX, S, ES, and SX. Since Telluride won World Car of the Year in 2020, the idea of introducing changes doesn’t make much sense. Some minor tweaks may happen, but you can expect the 2022 Telluride to closely resemble the 2021 and 2020 models. The MSRP starts at $33,500, a modest jump of $1,500 over the previous year.

Exterior Style

The expressive style of the Telluride shines with its bold front fascia’s signature grille design, LED headlights, fog lamps, and daytime running lights. The sculpted sides give the Telluride an athletic posture, and the available 20-inch alloy wheels are prepared for any adventure.

A special Nightfall Edition joins the rest of the auto industry with a blacked-out version of the Telluride. This special edition comes with 20-inch Black finish alloy wheels and a Black finish radiator grille. The Gloss Black exterior trim compliments the black bezels on the lighting system and the Kia Nightfall Edition logos.

Interior

You can expect to seat up to eight in the 2022 Telluride. The second-row seats will keep their one-touch sliding and folding capability. At the same time, the upholstery continues with premium Nappa leather on the upper trims and cloth on the lower spec models. The infotainment system comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen with HD radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. You can upgrade to a Harman Kardon system for theater-quality sound.

A head-up display will come with the 2022 model, with perhaps a few programmable additions to the display options. Expect to see the Qi-compatible wireless phone charger to carry over, along with multiple USB charging ports in all three rows. Heated and ventilated seats will be available for the front and second row. Available captains chairs for the second row slide forward at the touch of a button for easy access to the third row. The captain’s chairs also recline for a more comfortable ride on longer drives.

Powertrain

It is likely that we will see the same 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 engine with dual overhead cams and 24 valves powering the 2022 Telluride. This engine uses dual continuously variable valve timing and gasoline direct injection technology. Kia pairs this engine with an eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission to deliver 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The Telluride will continue to tow up to 5,000 pounds so you can take the boat or camper up to the lake house as usual.

You can opt for the all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring cornering control to help you conquer those dirt tracks on your latest adventure. The AWD offers selectable drive modes to match the driving conditions, plus an AWD Lock mode for added stability.

In-Vehicle Technology

Using the UVO Link app, you can remotely lock, unlock, and start your Telluride. UVO can also let you set your climate control system and help you find your car in those overcrowded parking lots. You also get the rear occupant alert that reminds you to check the rear cabin before exiting your Telluride.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Bluetooth technology come standard in every Telluride trim for 2022. You’ll be able to make calls, send and receive texts, and access your favorite apps hands-free using intuitive voice commands. The Telluride will also feature a real-time navigation system operated through your infotainment display.

Driver-Assist Technology

The Telluride will continue to offer available and standard driver-assist systems for 2022. Standard systems will include Safe Exit Assist, which overrides the unlocking mechanism of the rear doors until the traffic passing by clears. You also get Kia’s Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system that monitors and alerts you when cars approach from either side while in reverse. It will engage emergency braking should you fail to react to help lessen or avoid a potential impact.

The standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection system uses forward-mounted sensors that monitor the road ahead, alerting you to possible hazards and pedestrians crossing. The system provides visual and audio alerts, and if you fail to react it  will activate emergency brake support. A Parking Distance Warning system uses radar to provide distance warnings and audio alerts while backing up.

Available systems on the 2022 Telluride include Kia’s Highway Driving Assist. This system uses a combination of radar and cameras to keep you at a preset speed and distance to the car ahead. It can also adjust your speed based on posted speed limits.

A Blind Spot View Monitor gives you eyes where you usually can’t see. Sensors mounted on the rear of your Telluride detect cars approaching from the back on either side, alerting you when they enter your blind spot. Should you attempt to change lanes with a vehicle in your blind spot, the Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist-Rear system will help keep you on your previous course with gentle steering correction. The system also projects a live view from the right side of your Telluride onto your gauge cluster to help you see what’s there.
