Features: Exterior and Interior
The exterior of the Telluride features an elegant, luxurious design. Wherever you drive, expect to feel as though you’re riding a European luxury car.
The 2020 Kia Telluride came in just a handful of colors, but the 2021 Kia Telluride model year comes in with a whopping nine colors! Take your pick between Gravity Gray, Sangria, Everlasting Silver, Snow White Pearl, Black Copper, Dark Moss, Ebony Black, Wolf Gray, and Glacial White Pearl!
The 2021 Telluride is a mid-size SUV. Its large grille and headlight placements bring a perfect balance to the rest of the vehicle. Cosmetics aside, the Telluride’s exterior features are luxurious: throughout the Telluride trim lineup, expect to find heated outside mirrors and LED turn signal indicators.
The base LX and EX trim levels come with 18-inch rims, while the S and SX trim levels come with 20-inch rims.
And while Minnesota winters sure get gelid, the experience of a luxurious sunroof can hardly be beaten! Higher trim levels of the Telluride enable this feature. Upgrade to the SX package, and you’ll enjoy double sunroofs, to enhance your view of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. (Scroll down for a view for yourself!)
If your expectations were high for the 2020 Telluride interior, you won’t be disappointed with the 2021 model year. Like last year’s model, this one’s design is luxurious and chic. With an enhanced driving experience for all drivers and passengers who enter its interior space, the Telluride (like the Kia Sorento) offers three rows of seating that cater to adults. Some configurations of the Telluride offer space to seat eight, while others offer seven. Still, this interior offers plenty of room for day trips with the family or group outings to your favorite ballgame.
In addition, Rochester, Kasson, and Byron customers can opt for the captain’s chairs in upgraded trim packages. Look closer and you'll find the Telluride offers reclining third-row seats for extra comfort. Each row offers air controls and power outlets, ideal for long road trips. When you need lots of cargo space, 60/40 folding second-row seats and 50/50third-row seats provide plenty of additional space.
Higher-level trim packages include luxurious upgrades like heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable seats, plus power-folding mirrors and tailgates that open at the touch of a button. All trims offer steering wheel-mounted audio, hands-free phone, and cruise control buttons, and the SX configuration offers Driver’s Seat Integrated Memory System (IMS), which stores individual seat preferences. Stay charged up with the Telluride’s 5 or 6 USB connectors.

Performance and MPG
While behind the steering wheel, you’ll probably notice how luxurious and smooth the Telluride drives. You’ll hardly notice speed bumps in Rochester city corridors with its independent suspension. And although this crossover SUV is the largest in Kia’s lineup, the Telluride has no problem navigating serpentine roads.
All-wheel drive upgrades are available. In our view, such an upgrade is a worthwhile expense, especially when driving in snow or icy conditions.
No matter which trim level you choose the 2021 Kia Telluride has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Whether its a boat, trailer, or a light flat bed, this SUV has you covered.
The Telluride comes with only one powertrain option—that’s the 291-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6. So although you only have one option, it’s not a weak one! Expect plenty of brawn for wherever you need to go.
Drivers who journey through many landscapes will appreciate special modes like Eco, Sport, Snow, Comfort, and Smart, which adjust the vehicle’s settings via a controller on the center console for a personalized high-performing driving experience.
With all of these muscular engine specs, you may believe that the Telluride fails in the MPG department.** Not so. The 2021 Kia Telluride produces strong results in its miles per gallon (mpg) stats, in both front-wheel-drive (20/26/23 mpg city/highway combined) and all-wheel-drive (19/24/21mpg city/highway/combined) models.
Technology Features
One of the biggest reasons people buy newer vehicles is to take advantage of the latest technology features that come standard in updated models. You can expect this and more with all Telluride models, especially when it comes to safety. All Telluride trim levels feature a forward-collision alert system that identifies external objects like pedestrians, rear cross-traffic alert, active cruise control, lane-keeping assistant, and torque vectoring.
Because the SX package features the most bells and whistles of any trim level, it includes an additional tech-savvy safety feature. The blind-spot monitor displays a high-definition image of the vehicle’s side view when the turn signal activates. This makes changing lanes and maneuvering through tight spaces safer and more accurate, which prevents collisions.
Additional tech features include:
Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
Available on all trims, this smartphone connectivity suite is perfect for cruising to your favorite tunes.
Wireless Phone Charger
You’ll find this upgrade on the EX trim. You’ll also find a 10.5-inch touch screen with UVO link integration.
Harman Kardon Audio
Get the bass pumping with Harmon Kardon’s 10-speaker surround-sound audio.
