The MSRP for the Seltos S model starts at $24,390, going up to $27,040 for the Nightfall Edition, $26,140 for the EX, and $28,340 for the SX. The Seltos’s EX trim is the best value, as it comes with almost everything at a lower price. It includes premium faux-leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Other additions include a wireless smartphone charging pad, heated front seats, and a 10.3-inch infotainment system. All-wheel drive comes standard on every Seltos, except the S trim.
As for the Honda HR-V, the prices are slightly higher than for the outgoing model. The MSRP starts at $23,650 for the LX, $25,650 for the Sport, and $27,500 for the EX-L trim. Of the three models, we really like the Sport trim, as it has a more aggressive exterior styling and is the only one with 18-inch tires.
Engine and Performance
The Kia Seltos comes with two four-cylinder engine options: a 2.0-liter with 146 hp and a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 175 hp. The base engine uses a continuously variable transmission (CTV), while the turbo comes with a 7-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is standard for all trims except the S model. The Seltos provides you with a firm but smooth ride and has sharp handling for an SUV.
If you choose the Honda HR-V, you get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 hp. Front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) are standard on all trims, or you can choose the all-wheel drive option.
Interior and Cargo Space
The Seltos offers ample space for people and cargo and has 41.4-inches of front leg space and 40 inches of front headroom. Its interior features high-quality material, and the SX model comes with ambient lighting, which you can pause along with the music.
The cargo space is also large enough to accommodate up to eight carry-on suitcases in the cargo hold area and almost 20 when you fold down the back seats. The cargo volume is 26.6 cubic feet.
The HR-V has a sleek and attractive modern interior inspired by the redesigned Civic. It comes with comfortable front seats that provide a wide range of adjustments. However, the new model doesn’t have the folding seats of the outgoing model, which gave it more cargo space.
Honda claims that the HR-V has a larger cargo area with a reduced lift-over height to help load heavy stuff. The SUV has 41.9 inches of front legroom and 39.4 inches of headroom.
Fuel Economy and MPG Rates
According to the EPA, the Seltos has fairly efficient mpg rates. On the highway, the fuel economy rate for all front-wheel-drive trims with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder is thought to be 35 mpg, while the all-wheel drive Seltos with the turbocharged 1.6-liter manages 30 mpg.
For the HR-V, the EPA fuel economy estimates are high on the front-wheel drive models. These are 32 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city. The rates go down for the all-wheel drive to 30 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city.
Safety and Driver-Assist Features
The Kia Seltos comes with standard driver-assist technology. Higher-tech features, such as cyclist detection and adaptive cruise, control are limited to the SX trim.
