Art4Trails is a public art initiative that simultaneously beautifies the city while introducing residents to local artists. Art4Trails hosts a juried art competition each year that commissions a selection of permanent and temporary sculptures for Rochester’s bike trails. The program is responsible for over a dozen permanent sculptures you can view around the city.

Look for installations like the bright red “Biking Bunny” in Soldier’s Field Park, the colorful cubes dubbed “Drinking Sunshine” in Bear Creek Park, and the playful “Tractor Cat” in Roy Sutherland Playground. One of the most recent installations is “Nautilus,” a rainbow-hued shell found near the back patio of the Rochester Art Center. Since temporary sculptures are featured annually, the city’s artistic landscape is changing continuously.

The Rochester Symphony operates under the simple mission of bringing great music to life. Founded in 1919 as the Rochester Orchestra, this is a historic organization. Maestro Jere Lantz spent 42 years leading the Rochester Symphony before retiring in December 2022. The orchestra is currently operating under a guest conductor.

Performances typically take place at the Mayo Civic Center Presentation Hall, though the Rochester Symphony occasionally appears at local high schools as well. In addition to its full-length performances, the orchestra also hosts Free Family Preview concerts, which are ideal for a night out with the kids. These evenings offer abbreviated versions of the symphony’s concerts to make classical music more accessible to a younger audience. These family previews provide a more casual setting and last approximately 40 minutes. Though you must reserve a ticket, there’s no admission fee for Free Family Previews.
