Kia Sportage vs Kia Sorento

SUVs are an excellent combination of convenience, capability, and capacity, and the new generation of this vehicle type makes them even more exciting. Take the 2024 Kia Sportage, for instance. This fifth-generation compact SUV will feature improved technology features and an affordable price tag. Although Kia gave the Sorento a facelift in 2023, the manufacturer will issue some impressive midcycle updates for its new release in 2024.

Either a midsize or crossover SUV is a worthy choice. You’ll get great gas mileage, dynamic engine power, and impressive towing capacities, perfect for traveling all over Minnesota. Need help choosing which SUV is best? Here’s a look at how the 2024 Kia Sportage and Sorento stack up against each other.

Exterior Elements

The 2024 Kia Sportage features a sporty look with angled LED protector headlights and surround windows in Silver or Gloss Black, depending on the trim you select. The 2024 Kia Sorento’s futuristic appearance presents stunning vertical T-shaped headlights with redesigned taillights connecting two side light bars. Depending on the trim level, you can get the 2024 Sportage in an alluring Jungle Green or Sapphire Blue. We anticipate the 2024 Sorento will be available in a classy beige color with an upgraded black grille that complements it perfectly. Expect new wheel designs for the Sorento to boost the exterior’s overall look.

Cargo, Seating, and Towing Capacity

If you want an adventure-ready vehicle for your next road trip through North Rochester, choose the 2024 Kia Sportage for your next auto purchase. The available roof rails allow you to store cargo on top of the SUV to maintain the five-person seating capacity inside. There’s plenty of cargo room — 39.6 cubic feet — behind the second-row seats to haul your luggage, camping gear, and coolers. Fold the seats down for up to 74.1 cubic feet of extra storage room. Plus, the 2,500-pound towing capacity with trailer brakes means you can easily haul a lightweight camping trailer.

The 2024 Kia Sorento is just as road trip-worthy as the Sportage. Bump up your seating capacity to seven passengers with an available third row in the Sorento. Customize your cargo space by folding the 50/50-split folding third-row seats and second-row captain’s chairs or folding seats for an available cargo capacity of up to 75.5 cubic feet behind the front seats. Since the 2024 Sorento will not undergo significant changes, it will likely carry over the same towing capacity of 2,000 to 3,500 pounds as the 2023 Sorento, depending on the trim.

Interior Enhancements

Who doesn’t love heated and ventilated front-row seats in an SUV? The 2024 Kia Sportage offers this convenience, plus a heated steering wheel on select trims. Added interior perks for this compact crossover include advanced technology such as wireless charging and panoramic connectivity screens providing over 24 inches of displays. Depending on the 2024 Sportage trim, the available panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade allows you to let in lots of natural light or fresh air.

Notable interior upgrades for the 2024 Kia Sorento include a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, which blends seamlessly into the panoramic curved display of the infotainment system. Paired with the switchable control system, the new interior features of the 2024 Sorento give it a driver-centric feel with comfort and customization at your fingertips. Both SUV options will feature smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can stream your favorite music or use Bluetooth to take important phone calls.

Engine and Fuel Economy

Across all trim levels, the 2024 Kia Sportage features a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this SUV can achieve either 25 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined with front-wheel drive or 23 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, or 25 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. There’s also a 2024 Sportage Hybrid option if you want better fuel economy with an EPA-estimated 36 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive.

Although unconfirmed, we expect the 2024 Kia Sorento will maintain its existing engine options. You can choose the 2.5-liter four-cylinder or turbocharged engine depending on your driving style and needs. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. The car reaches 24 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined when paired with front-wheel drive. The turbocharged engine gets less optimal gas mileage but delivers more power with 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. A plug-in hybrid 2024 Sorento will likely be available as well.

Safety Features

Kia will equip the 2024 Kia Sportage and Sorento with DriveWise, the manufacturer’s suite of innovative safety features also known as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Standard safety features include lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-following assist. ADAS presents parking assistance features such as a park distance warning for the rear to prevent you from backing into other vehicles or pedestrians.

ADAS helps mitigate collisions with available safety features such as auto emergency braking technology and a blind-spot monitor. The Kia Drive Wise system also keeps you safe on Minnesotan roads with the available smart cruise control and highway driving assist. Choose either 2024 Kia SUV for enhanced protection so you and your passengers can reach your destination safely.
