2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

If you’re looking for a hybrid SUV with space and comfort to match its capable, efficient driving style, you’ve probably viewed the Kia Sportage Hybrid and the Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid. At first glance, these vehicles appear very similar. However, they possess some essential differences that’ll help you make up your mind. Let’s take a closer look.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Cabin Space

Both cabins have spacious appeal. The Kia Sportage Hybrid has 39.6 inches of headroom, 57.5 inches of shoulder room, 54.8 inches of hip room, and 41.4 inches of legroom in the front. In the back,  you have 39.1 inches of headroom, 55.6 inches of shoulder room, 53.4 inches of hip room, and 41.3 inches of legroom.

The Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid comes in four trims. The base model, Blue, has the most space. In this trim, front passengers get 40.1 inches of headroom, 57.6 inches of shoulder room, 54.5 inches of hip room, and 41.4 inches of legroom. All other TUCSON Hybrid models have 38.1 inches of front seat headroom with identical measurements for the rest.

In the back seat, Hybrid Blue passengers get 39.5 inches of headroom, 56 inches of shoulder room, 53.9 inches of hip room, and 41.3 inches of legroom. All other TUCSON Hybrid trims have 38.7 inches of front seat headroom, with the same measurements for the rest.

Overall, the measurements appear pretty close. However, the Sportage offers more space than the TUCSON across the entire lineup. The base Blue trim is the only exception, which measures nearly identically to the Sportage.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Cargo Space

You’ll love the utility you get from an SUV because these vehicles offer a cargo hold with more space than a traditional sedan trunk. We see that with the Sportage and TUCSON models.

The Kia Sportage Hybrid offers 39.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity. When you fold the rear seat flat, this space increases to 73.7 cubic feet.

Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid models have 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding the back seat flat opens up 74.5 cubic feet of cargo area.

We give the Kia Sportage Hybrid the edge as its standard cargo hold leads its class with nearly 1 cubic foot more space than the TUCSON Hybrid when all seats are in use.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Interior Seating

Upholstery varies by trim with both SUV brands. For example, the base model Kia Sportage Hybrid LX has premium cloth seats, and the top two trims use Kia’s SynTex upholstery, which has the beauty of leather but is more durable. Kia offers this synthetic leather upholstery in a variety of colors and styles.

Hyundai TUCSON’s base model Blue also has a cloth interior, while the SEL Convenience trim switches to H-Tex, a similar synthetic to SynTex. The N-Line trim offers a sport leather/cloth combination, and the top-tier Limited model has leather-trimmed cloth seats.

Hyundai’s use of leather may seem like an upgrade, but it’s only partially used throughout. Kia’s SynTex will wear less and retain its new appearance for much longer than fabric or leather seats, so Kia outfitted its Sportage with synthetic material instead of cloth or leather.

Both manufacturers offer heated front seats and ventilated front seats on the top trims. Leather-wrapped steering wheels come standard for both brands. The Kia Sportage Hybrid driver’s seats have a 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support. The Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid front seats only have an eight-way power adjustment with lumbar support.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Infotainment Technology

Kia Sportage Hybrid’s base model LX has an 8-inch touch screen, while the other trims come standard with a 12.3-inch version. You get pre-installed Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology, enabling smartphone synchronization for hands-free operations. This means you can make calls, send texts, access your apps, get navigation, and more using simple, intuitive voice commands.

Every TUCSON Hybrid model has a 10.25-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Dynamic Voice Recognition software for hands-free operations.

Both models feature wireless charging and multiple USB outlets for charging and connecting to the infotainment system. We give the edge to the Kia Sportage Hybrid because of its larger touch screen.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Powertrain

Kia makes the Sportage with a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with a full parallel hybrid system. Kia paired this engine with its six-speed automatic transmission. As a result, the Kia Sportage Hybrid gets a best-in-class 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Hyundai uses a similar 1.6-liter inline turbo-four engine with a hybrid electric motor and six-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain produces 226 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

The Kia Sportage Hybrid beats out the TUCSON Hybrid again with more horsepower and torque.

2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. 2024 Hyundai TUCSON Hybrid: Driver-Assist Technology

Both manufacturers equip their SUVs with a suite of driver-assist systems. Kia’s driver-assist offerings include lane following assist, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, and forward collision-avoidance assist with car, pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection.

Hyundai’s technology includes blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, a blind-spot view monitor, driver attention warning, lane-keeping assist, lane following assist, highway driving assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, smart cruise control with Stop and Go, safe exit warning, and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection.
