2024 Kia Sorento vs Hyundai Santa Fe

If you’re shopping for a new SUV, the Kia Sorento and Hyundai SANTA FE will both show up on your radar. While the two options have many similarities, there are notable differences to sway your decision. At Tom Kadlec Kia in Rochester, Minnesota, we want to help you explore your choices carefully so you can find the ideal vehicle for your family’s needs.

Engines

Kia Sorento

The 2024 Kia Sorento comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 191 horsepower. You can also upgrade to a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 281 horsepower. This option is available for all trims but is standard in the X-Pro. Edmunds reports that it can go from zero to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds with this turbocharged pick.

In the Kia Sorento Hybrid, you’ll find a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with the electric motor. This setup generates 227 horsepower with front-wheel drive or 261 horsepower with all-wheel drive.

Hyundai SANTA FE

The 2023 Hyundai SANTA FE comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower, putting it on par with the Sorento in this area. You can opt for a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine as well, but this option delivers just 277 horsepower in the SANTA FE. With the turbocharged engine, Edmunds reports that the SANTA FE can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

The SANTA FE Hybrid features two electric motors and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine for 226 horsepower. You can also opt for a plug-in model with an electric motor and 1.6-liter four-cylinder providing 260 horsepower.

Interior Features

Kia Sorento

Inside the new Kia Sorento, you’ll find a luxurious cabin equipped with ambient lighting, ample storage, and dual-zone climate control. Heated and ventilated front seats provide ample comfort. The second row can feature either bench seating or more luxe captain’s chairs. Though the third row is compact, it increases the Sorento’s seating to as many as seven passengers, making this a great pick for families.

Hyundai SANTA FE

Dual-pane front windows provide a quiet ride in the SANTA FE. Dual-zone climate control is an optional addition to enhance your comfort. Heating and ventilation are available for the front-row seats. The rear seats have optional heating and offer a recline adjustment, which is a nice bonus for comfort. However, this two-row SUV seats only five, which makes it a less desirable choice for larger families.

Technology

Kia Sorento

You’ll enjoy easy access to all of the Sorento’s tech features via the 12.3-inch infotainment touch screen equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The lower trim levels have a 4.3-inch digital gauge display, while the higher-end trims have a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. The base-level Sorento comes standard with a six-speaker audio system. You can also enjoy an optional wireless charging pad, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a 12-speaker Bose stereo system.

Hyundai SANTA FE

The Hyundai SANTA FE comes with an 8-inch touch screen equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can upgrade to a 10.25-inch touch screen, but this still falls short of the Sorento’s standard tech. You can add optional features such as wireless device charging and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Safety

Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento has an abundance of driver-assistance features. It comes standard with lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist, speed-limit assist, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Adaptive cruise control comes standard and impresses drivers with its level of machine learning. The cruise control system can now mimic your own style of braking and accelerating to provide a stunningly natural experience.

You can also include a 360-degree camera and rearview camera mirror to help you stay aware of your surroundings. Optional parking sensors offer additional assistance when you’re in a tight spot.

Hyundai SANTA FE
