2023 kia ev6 in rochester, mn

Introduced for the 2022 model year, the EV6 was, at once, Kia’s first all-electric model and a major turning point in the design philosophy of the South Korean automaker. It looked like no other Kia — and few other automobiles, period — while the combination of its range, build, and price point elevated it above many of its direct competitors.

Now, with the 2023 EV6 on its way later this year, auto enthusiasts are wondering how the latest model will compare to the outgoing. To whet your appetite, we’ve put together this guide for what to expect with the all-new 2023 Kia EV6. Have questions? Call Tom Kadlec Kia at (507) 215-8923.

Trims, Styling, and Exterior Features

The 2023 Kia EV6 will be available in four trims, which is one above the previous model year:

  • Light.
  • Wind.
  • GT-Line.
  • GT.

The dimensions of each are identical to those of the corresponding trim of the outgoing model year. The Light and Wind models measure 184.3 inches long and 74 inches wide, whereas the slightly larger GT-Line and GT are each 184.8 inches long and 74.4 inches wide. As for height, the vehicle measures 60.8 inches across all four trims.

The exterior design is just as sleek and bold as that of the outgoing model, with subtle front-end lines, gently sloping shoulders, and an aerodynamic body. The overall appearance is that of a compact SUV crossed with a hatchback, which further lends to its unique styling. Specific exterior features include LED lighting and narrow taillights that stretch the length of the body’s width. With the Light and Wind trims, you get 19-inch alloy wheels. For the GT-Line and GT, the wheels are 20- and 21-inch alloy, respectively.

Interior Dimensions, Features, and Infotainment

Like the outgoing model, the 2023 Kia EV6 is a five-seat vehicle that provides ample space for both passengers and cargo. The passenger volume measures 103 cubic feet, with 42.4 inches of legroom in the front row and 39 inches in the back. Behind the rear row, the cargo hold accommodates 24.4 cubic feet and is expandable to 50.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. In all likelihood, you will not want for space in the new EV6.

As for interior features, you can expect numerous standard perks even in the base Light model. These include:

  • A leather-wrapped steering wheel.
  • An eight-way power driver’s seat with memory functionality.
  • Heated front-row seats.
  • Automatic climate control.
  • Dual 12.3-inch screens — one for infotainment, the other for the gauge cluster.
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
  • Wireless charging.
  • Navigation.
  • Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Multiple USB ports — four USB-C and one USB-A.

Opt for a higher-level trim and you can enjoy additional features such as a premium 14-speaker Meridian audio system and a surround-view camera system.

Performance and Range

The motor arrangement of the 2023 Kia EV6 may vary depending on your choice of trim and drivetrain configuration. Rear-wheel-drive versions feature a single AC synchronous permanent magnet motor mounted on the rear axle, whereas all-wheel-drive models comprise dual motors distributed evenly in the front and rear.

The base Light trim is prohibitively rear-wheel drive. With a single 58 kWh battery, it generates 167 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The upper-level trims are available in either rear- or all-wheel drive and boast a more powerful 77.4 kWh battery. The rear-wheel-drive Wind and GT-Line each produce 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the all-wheel-drive versions get you 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. The GT trim is all-wheel-drive-only and puts out 576 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque.

The EV6’s range, too, varies depending on your trim and drivetrain. The rear-wheel-drive-only Light can get you 232 miles on a single charge. In comparison, a rear-wheel-drive Wind or GT-Line boast an impressive 310-mile range. If you opt for the all-wheel drive, you’ll get 206 miles with the GT, 252 miles with the GT-Line, or 282 miles with the Wind.

When it comes time to refuel your EV6, expect satisfying results. With a 350 kW fast charger, you can get from 10% to 80% battery life in less than 18 minutes. That translates to approximately 70 additional miles per five minutes of charging. For home charging, the 11 kW charger with a Level 2 outlet will get you to full battery life in about seven hours.

Safety Rating

At the time of this writing, no official safety ratings for the 2023 Kia EV6 are available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That being said, if the upcoming EV6 is anywhere near as secure as the outgoing model, we can expect superlative evaluations from all formal safety assessment authorities.

Based on the safety and driver assistance features of the 2023 EV6, that’s a safe expectation to have. Some of these features are:

  • Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.
  • Automatic emergency braking.
  • Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
  • Cyclist and pedestrian detection.
  • Forward-collision warning.

Price

No definitive pricing information is yet available for the 2023 Kia EV6, but experts speculate a starting MSRP of around $41,000 for the base Light trim and $57,000 for the GT-Line. The Wind trim would be somewhere in between and the GT would exceed the cost of the GT-Line.

Aside from the sticker price, you may be able to expect some state-level incentives here in Minnesota. Moreover, Kia may provide its own incentive with 1,000 kWh of free charging over the span of three years.
