Kia has introduced the 2022 Telluride, the latest edition of their popular SUV. It’s loaded with performance features, has the newest technology, and comes with all the comfort and convenience amenities to please the entire family. Plus, it has style for miles. Here’s a look at what you can expect to find on the 2022 Telluride.
Curb Appeal
The 2022 Kia Telluride rolls on 20-inch alloy wheels in various styles. A honeycomb grille bordered by satin chrome and framed by the LED headlights, fog lights, and unique amber daytime running lights give the Telluride a bold front fascia. The chiseled sides also feature satin chrome accents to the doors and windows. In addition, satin chrome roof rails and a rear roof-mounted spoiler add functional performance.
The Nightfall Edition offers blackout treatment all around, including black finish 20-inch alloy wheels, a black finish radiator grille, and black bezels for the headlights and fog lights. The base model LX comes nicely equipped and offers five exterior colors. The S trim adds a power sunroof and two more exterior paint choices.
You get eight exterior color options on the EX trim. In addition, the Telluride EX has Kia’s Smart Power Liftgate. The top-of-the-line SX trim comes with dual power sunroofs, one for the first row and another for the second row. It also comes with trim-exclusive 20-inch black sport alloy wheels.
Interior Comfort
The Telluride seats up to eight passengers, seven if you opt for the second-row captain’s chairs. The second-row seats slide with the push of a button for easy access to the third row. The lower trims offer Syntex seating material for a beautiful yet durable look and feel. The upper trims offer nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, adding refined sophistication.
The S trim comes standard with heated seats, while the EX and SX trims have heated and ventilated seats in the first and second rows. The third-row seats recline and split-fold for multiple cargo configurations. The rear cargo area holds 21 cubic feet. After folding the third row flat, you get 46 cubic feet of space. You achieve a maximum cargo capacity of 87 cubic feet when you fold the second and third rows. A premium audio system from Harman Kardon comes on the SX trim, delivering theater-quality sound.
Performance
Every Telluride trim uses a 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 engine with double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and dual continuously variable valve timing technology. Kia pairs this engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. In addition, the Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Four drive modes allow you to tailor your performance to match your mood. Comfort mode keeps everything smooth while Eco mode delivers the best mileage. Sport mode allows you to dial in your throttle and suspension for a more thrilling drive. Finally, Smart mode intelligently provides power when needed and economy when it recognizes the need for power no longer exists.
Kia’s available Active On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system continuously monitors road conditions and wheel slippage. It smartly delivers power to the wheels that need it most to keep you in control over various road conditions. In severe conditions, you can lock the AWD system and activate Snow mode to optimize your traction.
In-Vehicle Technology
Loaded with the latest tech, Telluride has Kia’s UVO Link with navigation system running on the 10.25-inch interactive display screen. In addition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability allow you to sync your smartphones seamlessly. Now you can make calls, stream your favorite music, access apps, and more hands-free using simple, intuitive voice commands.
A Driver Talk system allows you to communicate to the second- and third-row through the rear speakers. You also get a Quiet Mode that turns off the second and third-row speakers to enable rear passengers to rest. Five USB charging ports, one media port, and one input jack allow everyone to stay charged and connected. Bluetooth wireless technology lets your passengers connect their smart devices to the Wi-Fi network with a range of up to 50 feet.
The power door locks have a speed-sensing locking function and an impact-sensing feature that unlocks the doors when an impact occurs. In addition, a remote lock/unlock and push-button start system gets you in and running without a key.
Kia Drive Wise
Every Telluride features Kia Drive Wise, a suite of driver-assist systems designed to keep you safer. For example, a forward-collision warning system uses radar to monitor the road ahead, alerting you to potential obstacles. Should you fail to react, the forward collision-avoidance assist system engages emergency braking to help mitigate or avoid a possible accident. These systems also recognize pedestrians and cyclists under certain conditions.
A blind-spot collision-avoidance system uses similar technology to monitor your blind spots and alert you when vehicles enter them. The rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist system alerts you to vehicles crossing behind you while in reverse. This system also engages emergency braking should you fail to react in time.
You also get lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane following assist. These systems use optical sensors to track your Telluride while driving within marked lanes. The systems use gentle steering correction to help keep you centered in your lane. Kia’s new navigation-based smart cruise control system can predict curves, automatically lowering your speed when you enter the curve and returning you to your preset speed upon exit.
The highway driving assist system automatically adjusts your speed based on posted limits and the vehicle ahead. Other clever features found on the 2022 Telluride include a rearview monitor with dynamic parking guidance that helps you see behind you while in reverse. A safe exit assist system alerts you when exiting the vehicle on the street side of your Telluride if a car approaches.
