2022 Kia Telluride Exterior Dimensions

The Kia Telluride is a midsize crossover SUV that saw its debut in the 2019 model year. Today, it’s among the top choices in its class among both consumers and automotive experts. Considered ideal for families, the Telluride owes some of its plaudits to its physical characteristics, particularly its generous exterior and interior dimensions. Come see what the 2022 Kia Telluride has to offer in terms of its size and capacity.

Exterior Dimensions

2022 Kia Telluride Exterior DimensionsThe exterior dimensions of the 2022 Kia Telluride are largely consistent across its four available trims. Minus exterior adornments, the vehicle measures 196.9 inches long, 78.3 inches wide, and 68.9 inches tall. The three upper-level trims — EX, S, and SX — are available with roof rails, which increase the overall height to 69.3 inches.

Looking at the underside dimensions, we can see that the 2022 Telluride has a 114.2-inch wheelbase, which is about on par for its class. Its ground clearance is 8 inches, while its approach and departure angles measure 17 and 20.9 inches, respectively. The front and rear tracks differ slightly, with the former measuring 67.2 inches and the latter being 67.6 inches.

Altogether, the 2022 Telluride’s physical dimensions contribute to a curb weight that hovers around the median for midsize SUVs. The front-wheel-drive version has a minimum curb weight as high as 4,211 pounds and a maximum of 4,317 pounds. Should you opt for the all-wheel drive, the curb weight ranges from 4,255 to 4,482 pounds. For either drivetrain, your trim and options influence the specific weight of the vehicle.

Seating Capacity

2022 Kia Telluride Seating CapacityThe 2022 Kia Telluride is a three-row vehicle that’s capable of seating seven to eight people depending on your trim. The LX is strictly an eight-seater, with both the second and the third rows being bench seats that each can accommodate up to three people. The EX trim gives you the choice between a bench seat or captain’s chairs for the second row, the latter of which permits two passengers. The two highest-level trims come standard with the second-row captain’s chairs.

Interior Dimensions

The specific interior dimensions of the 2022 Telluride vary to some extent depending on your trim and options. One of the common characteristics across all trims is a total passenger volume of 178.1 cubic feet, which contributes to the vehicle’s designation as one of the roomiest midsize SUVs currently on the market.

Legroom

2022 Kia Telluride LegroomA breakdown of the specific space allowances might provide a clearer picture of the vehicle’s cabin size. The legroom of a vehicle is a measure of how comfortably you can stretch out. The greater the legroom, the less likely that a passenger may feel cramped.

In the 2022 Telluride, legroom is the same for all trims. In the front row, you get 41.4 inches, while second-row passengers can comfortably stretch out across 42.4 inches. The third row is tighter but provides enough space for even tall passengers, at 31.4 inches. The hip room is also consistent across all trims, with the front row getting 58.9 inches, the second row getting 58 inches, and the third row getting 43.7 inches.

Headroom

2022 Kia Telluride Head RoomHeadroom is the distance from the cabin’s ceiling to the seat. Ideally, the headroom is generous enough to provide enough clearance that your body doesn’t feel excessively enclosed.

The headroom you get in the 2022 Telluride depends on whether you opt for the sunroof, as well as which sunroof you select. A sunroof-free Telluride gets you 40.9 inches of headroom up front, 40.2 inches in the second row, and 38.1 inches at the very rear. Single-sunroof vehicles see a slight decrease in the front row, at 39.5 inches. With the dual sunroof, the headroom amounts to 39.5, 38.8, and 37.8 inches in the front, middle, and rear, respectively.

Shoulder Room

Shoulder room refers to the distance from one door panel to the other. A vehicle’s shoulder room makes the biggest difference for second- and third-row passengers in a fully packed cabin. In the Telluride, only the second-row shoulder room varies depending on whether you’ve opted for side window curtains, which are available in the EX and SX trims. Without the curtains, you get 61.6 inches in the front row, 61.2 inches in the second, and 55.3 inches in the third. With the curtains installed, only the second row sees any diminishment, reducing total shoulder space to 59.9 inches.

Hip Room

While shoulder room relates to a shared area, hip room is all about the space provided by a single seat. The hip room in the 2022 Telluride is consistent across all trims. The front-row seats provide 58.9 inches of space, the second-row seats give you 58 inches, and the third-row seats have 43.7 inches. These dimensions, along with the other interior measurements, provide plenty of room for individuals to cruise in comfort.

Cargo Space

2022 Kia Telluride Cargo SpaceThe 2022 Telluride doesn’t skimp when it comes to cargo volume. Behind the third row, with all seats up, you get an ample 21 cubic feet. That means that with a cabin full of passengers, you can still haul a sizable amount of groceries or luggage. Fold the third row down, and you see the cargo area expand to 46 cubic feet, which is roughly comparable to the accommodations of a small garden shed.

Should you need to haul an even greater volume of cargo, you can fold down the second row to expand the total space to 87 cubic feet. Such capacity is certainly on the higher end among midsize SUVs, as most models offer somewhere between 60 and 80 cubic feet.
