Due to its combination of excellent value and premium quality, the 2021 Sportage was named a finalist for U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 Best Compact SUV for the Money. Use this guide to learn more about the four 2021 Kia Sportage configurations.

2021 Kia Sportage LX Trim

2021 Kia Sportage LX Trim

Inside the base LX trim, you’ll find cloth upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. Rear-seat riders have plenty of room to stretch out for long drives. To keep travelers connected, the SUV includes the UVO infotainment system mated to an 8-inch touch-screen display. This system has quick response times along with crisp graphics, but you can also access the information via easily accessible physical controls. Pair your smartphone to the system through either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity. It also includes Bluetooth, a single USB port, a six-speaker stereo system, and voice recognition.

When looking at the exterior, the LX trim comes with eight available colors:

  • Black Cherry
  • Burnished Copper
  • Clear White
  • Hyper Red
  • Pacific Blue
  • Snow White Pearl
  • Sparkling Silver
  • Steel Gray

The LX trim, along with the S and EX trims, all come with the same engine. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. You also have the ability to manually shift gears whenever you want via the Sportmatic function. This engine uses a direct injection fuel delivery system, which helps with fuel economy.

With its 17-inch alloy wheels and front-wheel drive, this trim should get an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Opting for all-wheel drive drops the numbers slightly to 21 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Towing capacity is 2,000 pounds when the SUV is properly configured.

Several active safety features come standard on this trim, including automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist. Two complete sets of LATCH connectors are located on the SUV’s rear outboard seats as well as a tether anchor found in the rear middle seat. Due to these impressive features, the 2021 Sportage earned a five-star overall crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This trim has an available LX Popular package, which adds several interior features including dual-zone automatic climate control and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. It also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and heated outside mirrors.

2021 Kia Sportage S Trim

2021 Kia Sportage S Trim

Building off the LX trim, the S trim offers seven exterior color options, adding Clear White to the LX’s color palette. The S trim includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated outside mirrors, as well as blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Its 18-inch alloy wheels come in dark gray and are slightly larger than those offered on the LX trim, and it includes roof rails.

For the 2021 model year, Kia added two available packages to this trim. Selecting the S Nightfall Edition gives you a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, LED interior lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and black exterior accents. Opting for the S Nightfall Edition Premium package adds a push-button start, heated front seats, a rear USB port, wireless device charging, and adaptive cruise control.

2021 Kia Sportage EX Trim

2021 Kia Sportage EX Trim

Moving up to the EX trim gives you several interior amenities, including dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a rear USB port. You also gain a push-button start, a power liftgate, and 18-inch alloy wheels with a machined finish.

This trim also offers an upgraded package with the EX Technology package. Choosing this option provides the SUV with several safety feature upgrades including parking assist, adaptive cruise control, as well as front and rear parking sensors. As the name implies, you also receive several technology additions such as wireless device charging, an eight-speaker premium audio system, and satellite radio. Other features include leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat, and a panoramic sunroof.

2021 Kia Sportage SX Turbo Trim

2021 Kia Sportage SX Turbo Trim

If you want premium luxury, opt for the top-of-the-line SX Turbo trim. The SX Turbo features chrome dual-exhaust outlets, 19-inch wheels, black roof rails, and a sport-tuned suspension. It also comes with its own engine, which is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder one that produces 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This engine is also paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This trim gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, and 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.

This trim gives you many of the features found within the EX Technology package, such as leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable passenger seat, wireless device charging, navigation, satellite radio, and the upgraded eight-speaker audio system. To help you drive at night, the SUV has a rearview mirror that automatically dims whenever it detects bright lights. That way you’re not blinded and can focus on the road. Other standard safety features include front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and parking assist. You also gain LED front fog lights and tail lights.
